Man tries to stop falling after being stuck on a tower block

Footage of a man trying to stop falling along the outside of a tower block has sparked controversy in China.

The man, wearing a T-shirt and underpants, is seen sliding down the facade of a high-rise building, placing his back against a wall and one leg against a concrete column in front of him.

The man's fall then came to a stop but he was still trapped several storeys up.

The video shows him making an emergency phone call with one hand while desperately supported his body with his legs and the other hand.

He is later seen lying lifeless on the ground.

It was initially suggested that the incident took place on Tuesday in the city of Maoming in southern China's Guangdong Province.

Some web users joked that the person had ended up in the dangerous position after having to flee from his lover's flat during a secret rendezvous.

The short clip was widely circulated and became a trending topic on Weibo because of the speculation.

Rumour also had it that the man later plunged to his death.

Police in Maoming have dismissed the online allegations.

A statement said officers had noticed the trending video and the information surrounding it.

Maoming police said they had not received any reports of fatality that matched the content of the video, and urged the public to stop spreading rumours.

Maoming police also said they would closely monitor the case.

The statement did not confirm whether or not the man had died.
