Man goes blind in one eye after playing games on phone all night

A man in China has gone blind in one eye temporarily after playing games on his phone all night, according to a hospital.

The patient stared at the tiny screen from night until the wee hours, and the next day when he woke up, he realise he had lost sight in his left eye, said doctors from Shenzhen.

The man suffered from a haemorrhage in his eye after his superficial retinal vessels had ruptured, according to medics.

The condition is called valsalva retinopathy and it's usually caused by physical exertion.

Sufferers can experience cloudy or hazy vision, partial loss of vision or complete loss of vision.

The man, who remains unidentified, hoped to carry on playing game the next morning.

But five minutes into his gaming session, he suddenly lost his sight.

He rushed to Shenzhen Songgang Hospital a while later after his sight failed to recover on its own, the hospital said in a social media statement last Thursday.

Doctors have given the man laser surgery and he is expected to recover in a month.

Just last month, another man in China went blind in one eye after suffering a so-called 'eye stroke' while using his smartphone in bed, doctors in Xi'an claimed.

The man, known only as Wang, is said to have temporarily lost his sight while playing games on the device with the lights off.

Medics in Xi'an diagnosed him with central retinal artery occlusion.

The condition, also known as an eye stroke, is caused by a blockage or narrowing of the arteries carrying oxygen to the retina. They affect one per cent of the population.
