Baby left with 100 wounds on her face after being gnawed by mice

A baby in China has been left with more than 100 wounds on her face after being gnawed by mice while being left at home unattended.

Doctors were also shocked to find part of her nose bitten off.

The three-month-old girl was attacked by the rodents while being left alone at home in southern China's Yunnan Province this month.

The child's parents told journalists they suspected that they had not wipe the food off their daughter's face after feeding her, leading to the tragedy.

They claimed that they had left her unattended for about 15 minutes when they came back to the shocking scene in their flat in the prefecture of Chuxiong.

She was rushed to a local hospital before being directed to a larger hospital in the provincial capital of Kunming.

Dr Lou Fan, a director at Kunming Children's Hospital which was treating the baby, told the station: 'There were more than 100 biting wounds from the animals [on her face]. There were simply too many. We could only estimate. Her condition was very serious.'

Dr Zhang Henglong from the hospital said: 'The right side of the nose tip had been completely bitten off and you could see the bone.'

Kunming Children's Hospital received the tiny patient after the hospital in Chuxiong said it was not able to treat her.

Her family spent eight hours travelling to the provincial capital with the baby.

Doctors gave the girl stitches and arranged her to be given the rabies vaccine.

She is expected to leave the hospital in one or two days.

Medics said it would take 'a long time' for all of her wounds to heal, and cosmetic surgery would be needed if the parents wish to restore her facial features.
