Hong Kong reports record number of new coronavirus infections

While Hong Kong managed to weather the initial coronavirus outbreak fairly well, it has been hit hard by the second wave.
On Friday, Hong Kong reported 48 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, the highest number for a single day since the beginning of the epidemic.
36 of these cases involve people who have recently traveled overseas, arriving from countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
With coronavirus outbreaks starting up elsewhere around the world, many people from Hong Kong who work and live abroad are now returning to the city to seek shelter while bringing the virus with them.

As domestic virus transmissions have dropped to zero in mainland China, Chinese authorities are facing the same problem, reporting a record 39 new imported coronavirus cases on Thursday.

After being praised for its response to the initial outbreak, Taiwan too has fallen victim to this wave, reporting record numbers of new cases this week, including 27 new cases on Thursday.
Taiwan has shut its borders to most foreign visitors. Meanwhile, Hong Kong has said that everyone arriving from overseas will be quarantined for 14 days.
