Jack Ma donates 500,000 testing kits, 1 million masks to US

Jack Ma is now splashing his money around to places in need of equipment amid the coronavirus pandemic, like Africa and the United States.
The retired billionaire founder of Alibaba announced earlier this month that he would be donating 500,000 Covid-19 testing kits and one million face masks to the United States.
In his first-ever tweet on Monday, he posted a photo of the first batch of those kits and masks being loaded onto a China Eastern Airlines plane in Shanghai.

So far, there have been more than 4,500 cases of the coronavirus diagnosed in the United States. However, they are likely to be far more people infected with the US response to the outbreak characterized by a drastic lack of testing kits and other resources.
Drawing from my own countrys experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate personal protective equipment for medical professionals are most effective in preventing the spread of the virus, Ma wrote in a message published by his charity foundation.
We hope that our donation can help Americans fight against the pandemic.

Ma went on to reveal his foundations plans to send 20,000 testing kits, 100,000 masks, and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields to each of the 54 African countries.
These supplies will arrive in Addis Ababa where Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will oversee their distribution.
The entire continent of Africa has only reported several hundred cases of the coronavirus, a statistic that many experts believe has more to do with the lack of testing kits in many countries.

Ma has also been sending medical supplies over to Europe as well with 500,000 masks arriving in Belgium on Friday, destined for Italy.
Asias richest man retired last year as Alibabas chairman, going out in a blaze of glory while singing Chinese rock songs and You Raise Me Up in front of tens of thousands of his employees at a stadium-sized show.
He has said that he will now devote his time to charitable causes.
