Sams Club to open massive flagship store in Shanghai next year

Looking to crush its arch-nemesis Costco, Sams Club will be opening up a flagship store in Shanghai next year.
The outlet will be the largest Sams Club in China occupying a 70,000-square-meter space out in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone in Pudong.
Along with the usual assortment of bulk goods, the store will also boast sections for dining, entertainment, and education.
The Walmart-owned membership retailer already operates 26 outlets in China including two in Shanghai with one opening in Qingpu district last year.

However, the brands thunder was stolen a bit last year when rival Costco made its grand entrance into China, opening an outlet in Shanghais suburban Minhang district that drew ravenous crowds, forcing the store to shut down early on its first day.

In case you are comparison shipping, annual membership at Costco in Shanghai costs 299 yuan ($42) while Sams Club membership is priced at 260 yuan ($36).
