Alibaba exec demoted over alleged affair with online celeb

Chinese internet giant Alibaba has demoted one of its most promising top executives over allegations of his affair with an internet celebrity.
On April 17, a Weibo user believed to be the wife of Jiang Fan (), a (former) senior vice president of Alibaba, wrote to popular fashion influencer Zhang Dayi (), telling her not to mess around with her man.
The message quickly caught the attention of netizens, forcing Jiang to apologize for the outburst from his family member and request that Alibaba investigate the situation.

The scandal was not merely of carnal interest.

Only 35 years old, Jiang has already worked his way up to head Alibabas Taobao and Tmall online marketplaces and further promotions appeared a certainty.
Meanwhile, Zhang Dayi is the co-founder of her own influencer firm, Ruhnn, which received investment from Alibaba in 2016.

Following an investigation, Alibaba announced that while there had been no improper business shenanigans, Jiang had hurt the companys reputation with his improper handling of family matters.

He has been demoted down to vice president and removed from a partners committee that he was formerly the youngest member of. His 2019 bonus has also taken back.
