Just in time for the end of the coronavirus lockdown, the China Tourist Attractions Association has released an index of the happiest places you can go in the country
Based on online comments from tourists in 2019, the index attempts to rank the most well-rated tourist attractions in the country from a pool of more than 1,000.
Heres the top 15, in which the Terracotta Warriors get beaten by Shanghais wild animal park and the Great Wall of China evidently didnt make the cut:
- The Forbidden City, Beijing
- Shanghai Disneyland, Shanghai
- Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Chengdu
- Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong
- Chimelong Safari Park, Guangzhou
- Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Zhuhai
- Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, Shanghai
- Shanghai Wild Animal Park, Shanghai
- Presidential Palace (China Modern History Museum), Nanjing
- Summer Palace, Beijing
- Terracotta Army, Xian
- Happy Valley, Beijing
- Chimelong Paradise, Guangzhou
- Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai
- Happy Valley, Shanghai
The report also noted that Chinas tourism sector can expect a slump in income of about 30 percent this year compared with last year because of the impact of the coronavirus outbreak which caused attractions across the country to close for months.
Its unclear if there will be any lasting effects from the epidemic. Over the Tomb Sweeping Holiday earlier this month, restless tourists swarmed scenic spots like Anhuis Huangshan, making it look just like old times.
