Shanghai schools will reopen to some students on April 27

Following an extended coronavirus-caused hiatus, Shanghai is planning to allow some students to return to school by the end of the month.
Graduating middle and high schoolers across the city will be able to come back to school on April 27 (Monday), Shanghais education commission announced on Thursday.
On that date, universities and secondary vocational schools will also be able to arrange for the return of their graduating students.
Meanwhile, all schools are being told to make preparations for the return of all other students before May 6. However, the official date of the full reopening of schools in Shanghai will be announced later and will be based on the developing situation.
Shanghais schools have been closed since January with the Covid-19 outbreak prompting an extended winter break that lasted until the semester was finally resumed on March 2 via online classes.

While Shanghai has reported no domestic coronavirus transmissions for some time, the city is still dealing with the issue of imported cases of the virus. In total, 213 imported cases have been reported in Shanghai including nine more on Wednesday.

Schools have already reopened in other provinces around China. Qinghai was the first to allow its graduating students to come back on March 9.
