Thousands of tourists swarm up Mount Tai for Labor Day

While scenic spots around China tried to limit visitor numbers over the May Day holiday weekend, even a limited tourist rush in China can make for some extremely crowded places.
Chinese netizens have been shocked by photos and videos from the famed Mount Tai in Shandong province over the long Labor Day holiday weekend, showing thousands of people climbing the mountain together to watch the sunrise.
The crowds actually represent only a quarter of the normal level of traffic on the mountain with officials capping tourist numbers at 25 percent of usual capacity during the holiday to prevent any further spread of the coronavirus.
Still, that does mean 29,000 daily visitors at the mountain.
