***Q&A***
Which STDs are tested for in the mandatory medical check?
According to feedback by medical experts at Xiangya 1 Hospital the annual medical check (for most foreigners based in Hunan) assesses your blood for the following sexually trasmitted diseases (STDs):
HIV
Syphilis
Hepatitis B (HBV)
Hepatitis C (HCV)*
Alanine Aminotransferase**
*HCV is usually trasmitted by blood (not sexually)
**assesses liver function which could reveal Hepatitis
The 'complete blood count' shows the status of your body in general and is not necessarily connected to drug use (as some have claimed in the past):
White blood cell count
Red blood cell count
Platelets cell count
Hemoglobin concentration
Neutrophil percentage
Lymphocytes percentage
About the urinary test, this is actually called a 'Routine Urine Test' and there is no specific purpose to it. It's part of the overall medical examination. However, it is likely that drug testing could become part of the mandatory check in the future.
To book for medical check (which now requires online appointment prior to your visit as well as showing your valid 'green health ecode' on your phone), check out our article:
