Taiwan legislator suggests renaming TCM to Taiwanese medicine

A Taiwanese official has become the object of scorn and ridicule in China after suggesting that the term traditional Chinese medicine ought to be changed.
At a TCM academic forum in Taipei on Sunday, You Si-kun, the speaker of Taiwans Legislative Yuan, advocated for Taiwan to instead adopt the term Taiwanese medicine for TCM in order to further distance itself from the mainland and enhance Taiwans reputation worldwide.
You noted that both South Korea and Vietnam had nationalized TCM with their own names while Japan calls it Kampo which literally means the method of the Han dynasty.
In Taiwan, most have found the proposal rather silly. Meanwhile, his argument has even fewer supporters on Chinese social media where Weibo users have asked if Taiwan plans to change any more terms, like perhaps writing in Taiwanese characters.
