LOCAL HISTORY WALKS

WNIC (in association with the Red Lion Pub) has explored the old city streets of Changsha to bring you a 6-part video collection of the hidden alleyways and streets of ancient Changsha. Plus, find a rough outline of the route to help you plan your own walk.Note that in most cases there is no specific path to follow, but rather we encourage you to explore alleys and streets freely (hence our maps are rough outlines). We hope you find these short videos and maps helpful. Changsha is undergoing extensive renovation to bring back the city's amazing historic past. Enjoy the delightful cobbled streets, food stalls and private gardens. Changsha awaits!

In our final installment of the 6-part historic walks series, we explored the newly renovated Duzheng Street area with it's funky shops, restaurants and some interesting, small bars. Start at the archway on Renmin Lu and head down the cobbled street taking in some of the narrow alleys (if you keep going Eastwards then you hit what was once the Eastern edge of the old city wall, still with it's moat sheerdrop effect ...but now city roads). There are delightful historic wall pictures showing the area as it was a hundred years, or so, ago. Then at the southern end, marking the South Eastern corner of the old city wall, some of which is still in tact, you can visit Tianxin Pavilion with great views of the city and beautiful gardens. This area is great both night and day.
